A Note to the Huston Academy Family

We know that this past few months has been a difficult time for everyone. Graduation has been a top priority for Huston Academy. These plans have been well thought out and thoroughly encompass the safety of our students, families, and faculty members.

After careful consideration of guidance from the Governor and from TEA, Huston Academy decided to transition from an indoor ceremony to a safer outdoor ceremony with limited attendees to honor our graduates.

Having a closed ceremony is not ideal, but we are required to follow guidelines provided by the Governor and TEA. We want to honor our seniors and allow them to celebrate with their closest family members. That is the most important decision point to us. But we also know the risk involved when holding any type of public ceremony. Strict guidelines are in place to protect our seniors, their family and friends, and our faculty and staff. We ask that all ticket holders honor these guidelines for the safety of all involved. At this time all Huston Academy staff members and and seniors will be wearing masks. We encourage all ticket holders to do the same. Regardless of how we feel about this practice, if it is the safest way to act and it helps to protect each other, we are obligated to do our part to stop the spread of the virus.

Please understand that plans can change and we hope that they will so that we can loosen some of these restrictions. We are currently monitoring the number of active cases in Erath County and will communicate any changes to this protocol as soon as they are known. We appreciate all of your support and understanding during these difficult times.

Each graduate will receive 5 tickets, for family and friends. Tickets will be distributed the week of May 25 at a date and time to be communicated soon. Only ticket holders will be allowed entrance into the venue. The ceremony will be closed to the public.

Seats will be assigned by family groups. Families will only be allowed to sit together in their assigned row. Seats will be marked for social distancing purposes. Rows will be assigned by a random drawing conducted by Huston Academy administration.

Guests will be required to practice social distancing upon entering the venue, in the bleachers, and exiting the venue. While graduation is typically a time for hugs and high fives, we ask that all guests refrain from doing so. Please honor social distancing guidelines. Only seniors and faculty members will be allowed on the track and football field. Gathering for group photos will not be permitted. If you would like group photos, those must be taken somewhere other than Lem Brock Field. When entering and exiting the stadium, social distancing practices will be required. Hand sanitation stations will be available. We ask that all guests sanitize when entering the stadium. We understand that you may have just sanitized in the car, but we are assuming no one has sanitized.

Once the ceremony is over, we ask that everyone exit immediately using social distancing guidelines. Please bring bottled water as it will be an outdoor event in the Texas heat.

Masks will be provided for graduating seniors and highly encouraged for guests. All faculty members will wear masks. Handshakes will not be included in diploma portion of the ceremony.
